During HSA’s first Youth Cultural Exchange, young people from Rwanda and the United States experienced life, culture, learning, and friendship side by side.
​
Before long, what felt different didn’t feel quite so different anymore.
​
No one came simply to teach.
Everyone came ready to learn.

That first exchange taught us something worth carrying forward.

Beginning in 2027, Hope Springs Africa will carry that spirit of shared learning forward through our Africa College Cultural Trips, offering 7- to 10-day, community-based education experiences in Kigali, Rwanda, developed in partnership with colleges and universities.
​
Students will learn alongside Rwandan university students, business leaders, and community leaders in the city and nearby rural villages. These experiences help students strengthen their intercultural understanding by applying classroom learning in real-world settings.

In Africa, I learned to be grateful for what you have because other families could have more or less. I will miss how clean everything is. I enjoyed that everyone was so nice. But my favorite part was learning all the history, especially about the genocide. I will never forget the time I went to Africa. No matter how old I am.
