BOARD MEMBERS


We’re looking for visionary men and women to join our Board of Directors. If you have a passion for making a difference and a track record of getting things done, you might be a fit. We’re currently filling Secretary, Development, Marketing, Education, and Volunteer Recruitment roles.
 

Experience is valuable, but your commitment matters more than your résumé.

Hope Springs Africa is based in Bluffton, South Carolina (USA). While our board serves virtually, we also value having several members within the Southeast region who can occasionally support in-person events and community engagement efforts.

Support Hope Springs' mission by contributing strategic insights, overseeing organizational governance, and actively engaging in initiatives that drive the organization's goals and uphold its core values.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Determine and support the organization's mission and strategy.

  2. Select, recruit, and orient the Executive Director, Board members, and Advisory Council members.

  3. Provide financial oversight.

  4. Ensure ethical and legal integrity of the organization.

  5.  Actively participate in ensuring adequate funds for the sustainability of the organization.

  6.  Each Board member must make an annual contribution.

  7.  It is recommended that each member support the organization as one of his or her top three charitable commitments each year.

  8.  Attend at least 2/3rds or 7 of the 10 monthly Board of Directors meetings.

  9. Serve actively on at least one committee (examples are: Finance, Governance, Development, Education & Outreach, Marketing & Communications and Volunteer Recruitment).

  10. Promote the organization in the community and participate in the public events of the organization.

Membership is for a term of 3 years and is subject to agreement to the expectations above as well as a review by the Board at the end of each members’ 3 year term.

These expanded duties reflect a comprehensive approach to leadership and management, crucial for driving the organization's success.
